[caption id="attachment_884" align="aligncenter" width="226" caption="The Secret of growing orchid plants"][/caption] It wasn’t until I moved from Hawaii to London did I learn the technique and secrets of growing orchid plants. Of course in Hawaii, you can simply attach them to a tree bark in the yard and as long as they receive enough rain, they will grow. We moved to California and for years I tried to grow orchids, without much luck. After a few years, we moved to London and for my birthday someone sent me a Phalaenopsis plant. Here I was living in London, where the weather is anything but consistently sunny. Well, I set my plant in a south facing window, on a shelf above the radiator in the kitchen; I then read an article that suggested watering only on the moon calendar, during water sign days. Farmers have been using this method for centuries, so I tried it. Over the last three years I have seen that original orchid plant flower three times a year! I call her Ingrid Bergman, as she is quite the beauty. I have collected four other varieties of orchids and I am convinced that the secret to growing orchids is the following: South or east facing window- with natural light Watering with the moon calendar- drain completely before putting in container A balance of moisture in room and warmth, but no severe temperatures of hot or cold, since it is my kitchen the steam from cooking provides the moisture Monthly feedings with orchid food Good luck!
